The Language of the Skies

There is a language of the skies. The skies seem to have alot to say lately, don't they? Hurricanes, eclipses, blood moons: not to mention how the earth seems to be groaning simultaneously with the skies...with wildfires and earthquakes. These are terrible events which rock our world. Our hearts and prayers go out to all of those being affected by these tragedies. My aim is to point us to scripture today which hones our focus and offers real hope in troubling times.

Psalm 19:2,3

Day to day [the sky] pours forth speech,
And night to night [it] reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words;
Their voice is not heard...

Day to day the sky is pouring out a message...It speaks!

Night after night after night, knowledge is being offered.

Have you considered this ever? The skies are POURING out speech!

There is no audible speech, nor any words with syntax, nor any voice to physically be heard, yet their sound goes out through ALL the earth. They utter. And these utterances go out to the ends of the earth. Day by day, night by night, they are communicating something.

If this is so, what are they saying?

Are the skies telling the future?

Some people think the skies are speaking about them. Are you a Sagittarius, Virgo, Gemini? Astrology boasts that it can read into the stars and predict what kind of month you will have, how to spot your next love interest, whether or not you should try for that job promotion. Astrology is built upon the alignment of the stars and it is all about what the skies are saying about YOU. God's word warns against reading the stars in this manner. (Isaiah 47:13) Reading into the stars cannot save souls! Astrology circumvents prayer, faith, and truly, God himself. The Bible tells us this is not what the skies speak.

Are the skies condemning carbon footprints?

Some people think the skies are condemning the human race for the cultural "sins" of eating meat, or using too much petrol, or having too many babies. While we most certainly ought to use the resources God has given us with wisdom and kind stewardship, the Bible does not speak of green living as righteous and the previous mentions as sins.

This line of thinking suggests that Mother Nature is in upheaval and ouching at the pains we humans have inflicted on her? This is not what the Bible says either. Why will we pay homage to a fictitious mother, yet deny God the Father the honor that is due him?

What then, are the skies saying?

If the skies are speaking, what are they saying?

Psalm 19:1 the very first verse in the chapter, answers this question:

The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.

The skies are pouring out wisdom and knowledge about our Creator God. They hint at his power and wrath as well as his mercy and grace. It is through the language of his creation that we can come to learn of him (Romans 1:20). And if we have ears to hear, may we furthermore then turn to his written word to us--the Bible. Psalm 19 even piques our understanding of God through creation but then drives us toward the scriptures. For this is where salvation from real sins and wisdom for godly living--all through Jesus Christ, is found:

7 The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether.
10 They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them Your servant is warned;
In keeping them there is great reward.
12 Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults.
13 Also keep back Your servant from presumptuous sins;
Let them not rule over me;
Then I will be blameless,
And I shall be acquitted of great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.

Sisters, may we cling to our anchor of hope, Jesus Christ, in these tempestuous days!

In Christ's love, erika
