Speaker Spotlight!

In preparing for our women's conference, re:garding HIM, coming up on October 4th, here is another fun Q & A with one of our Breakout Session speakers, Adrienne Miklovic.  My favorite part is what she wanted to be when she grew up.   I hope you enjoy! Love, Wendy

Adrienne will be speaking at the Breakout Session: “A Heart of Humility”

What three words that start with the first letter of your first name describe you?

Amiable. Approachable. Alabama mom

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A mermaid.

Where in the Bible are you reading this summer?

Revelation and Psalms.

What has God already showed you about your topic?

Humility is the cornerstone of our relationship with the Lord and with others. Without it, those relationships will be anemic or even nonexistent.

What blogs and websites do you often click?

The BaylyBlog and re:flect-i

Describe your perfect day.

My perfect day would include a walk alone with my husband, all 6 of our children around the dinner table, dark chocolate and 73 degree weather.

Share a piece of marriage/friendship/child-rearing wisdom.

Do not secretly compare your husband to other men.

How have you seen God's hand in a good situation and a difficult one?

He transformed me from a liberal feminist to a woman who loves Jesus and His Word—only God’s hand could have done this!

What was the first concert you attended?

Barry Manilow, baby! It was 1980 and I’m not ashamed to say that it was a fantastic show.

How do you incorporate prayer time into your life?

I set my alarm earlier than I need to get up and pray before I get out of bed—setting my thoughts properly before the day begins. Then I end the day with a prayer time—reviewing my day with the Lord before I sleep.

What music gets you pumped?

I don’t listen to music much (my 3rd grader’s recorder homework doesn’t count). I do love our church’s worship music.

Speaker Spotlight!

This coming October 4th is the big day when our women's ministry, Women of the Word, will be hosting the re:garding HIM conference at our church.  We have been planning and anticipating this for over a year; now it's only a few months away!  The day will be an opportunity to grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ through the Word and to enjoy the company of all of the women who are coming from various churches and backgrounds.  The speakers will be local women, "ordinary women", desiring to magnify our "extraordinary God".  More can be found at our website--> click here and register!!  :) Between now and then, re: flect-I will feature the speakers one at a time in an effort to help you get to know them even before the conference.  Today's post will feature some Q & A with one of the  keynote session speakers, Julie Van Wormer.  You may actually remember Julie as she was one of the writers on this blog during the Lent season when we featured posts on the names of Jesus.  Here's a little more about Julie...

Speaker Spotlight: Julie Van Wormer

Keynote Session: “Joy Revealed”

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a Teacher. I would come home from school and line up my stuffed animals, use National Geographic Magazines as "textbooks" and teach whatever I learned that day to my stuffed students. Amazingly, I really had no discipline issues in my classroom. :)

Where in the Bible are you reading this summer?

Job and Philippians

What has God already showed you about your topic?

God has been teaching me to trust Him even in the day to day situations that I run into such as a long line at the grocery store, a traffic jam or change in my plans. I need to keep focused on God's plans more and more.

What book have you read this past year that has changed you?

“Choosing Gratitude” by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. It has caused me to practice thankfulness daily - rather than just when I want to.

What breakout sessions would you like attend?

“A Heart of Humility” would be fantastic. So often, my heart is seeping with pride in something I have done or worrying about something that I can't do.  Basically, this pride issue removes God from the picture all together. It's on my to-do list!

What blogs and websites do you often click?

LOVE girltalk.com and femina.com.  I read these regularly and enjoy insight from the practical articles.

Describe your perfect day.

Spending time with my family near a lake and beach with good food and maybe even a maid to clean up our mess! :)

Share a piece of marriage/friendship/child-rearing wisdom.

I think the most helpful piece of advice I read was to only speak good about your husband. I think it shows great respect to him.

How do you incorporate prayer time into your life?

I get up early just like my momma did when I was growing up.  It is soooo quiet in my house. Probably the only time it is quiet!  She was crazy - she'd get up at 4:30. I am a 6 o'clock gal!

What music gets you pumped?

Bluegrass, no one can sit still when a good bluegrass band is jamming away to "Rocky Top"!
