Usually the media does a pretty good job keeping this 'dirty' word off the pages or screens of our lives, but occasionally the "sin" word slips out and is quickly followed by a *gasp* or a contorted look of disdain.  It's expected that the world hates this word and finds it utterly offensive and judgmental for something to be labeled as sin.  We can talk about the world all day long and feel satisfied in ourselves for knowing better or maintaining higher standards. But what about us?  What about you?  What about me?

Do I truly understand the vulgarity of my sin against our perfect and holy Father?  If I did, I'm sure I would not be so quick to entertain those thoughts of my mind or to step into the enticing domain of darkness.  Isn't it our nature to excuse it, though?  A little lingering leads to entrapment.  Like a fly landing on a spider's web, sin looks safe, comfortable and short-lived.  We can leave it any time we want, right?  Then, when we try, it's awful sticky and tangled.

As I've been a student of sin, as opposed to a student of God's Word, I've observed that I often think others are just wrong when they warn me.  Or I am so intrigued by the darkness that I leave the light to explore.  The truth is  I don't love the One- Who-warns-me enough to listen and obey.  Knowing my Heavenly Father more causes me to love Him more and this prompts me to believe and obey Him more.

Whether you are married or single, young or old, independent or still under your parents' authority, I pray that you would know God's love for you, and love Him in return, so that you will trust Him and know that His ways are good; you will choose Him and not sin; you will walk in the light as He is in the light.

For this reason I kneel before the Father,  from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.  I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being,  so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,  may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,  and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Battle against your sin as I battle against mine.  There IS victory through Jesus Christ.
