Re: flect-Ing on Jesus as the Way

Jesus' purpose on earth was to glorify His Father (John 17: 4).  In all He did He pointed to God.  And, as His earthly ministry neared the end, He told His disciples that He would be going to His Father.  His friends, wanting to follow Him  because they loved Him, asked how they could know the way to where He was going.  Jesus' answer:

I am the way,the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.

John 14: 6

You know the old joke about how men never ask for directions when they're lost?  Before the advent of GPS in our cars or Google maps on our phones, we had to use real actual maps while traveling.  Those archaic pieces of paper didn't give much detail either, especially when compared to the wealth of information at our fingertips with a Google search.  If you were hunting for your location and you became completely turned around and upside down, you pretty much only had one option for help...stop and ask.  But, apparently, many people are too proud to do that so the alternative to asking a local for the directions would be to forge your own way.  This could end up being a real time-waster and frequently futile.

Jesus didn't leave us without direction to the Father.  He clearly said that He is the way.  There is no other way.  We may insist that we can do good charitable works or we could steer clear of the 'really bad sins' to gain a spot in Heaven.  We might forge ahead and try religions that instruct us to accomplish certain things or achieve various levels of holiness so we can spend eternity with the Father in Heaven.  But, if I reject the Way, the only Way, all other attempts are ultimately futile.

This is not what our postmodern minds want to hear--there can't be only one way, right?  Each way is equally valid, right?  If you believe this to be true, I encourage you to seek who Jesus really is.  See how He could pronounce Himself as the only way to the Father, as the only Truth and as the only means of life.  I pray that the Holy Spirit would give you eyes to see the truth of Jesus Christ and that you would understand that "whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame...for whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."  (Romans 10: 11, 13)

If you believe Jesus is the Way, my challenge would be to humbly live as dependent upon Him.  Don't resist His direction or His wisdom for your life.  Believe His way is best and all-sufficient for your needs.  Trust that He has finished the work of salvation on the Cross and He has forgiven you!  Through His perfect sacrifice, He has given you His righteousness so now you are presented to the Father as

holy in His sight, without blemish and free from accusation.

Colossians 1: 22b

Believe this...live this.  There is no other way to freedom from sins, peace that passes all understanding and a hope for life eternal than Jesus Christ.

Love, Wendy
