Re: flect-Ing on Jesus as the Son of God

Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.

John 6:69

Jesus is the Son of God. He shares the highest dignity, worth and glory of God because He fully shares in the essence of God Almighty.  However, He came to earth humbly to meet our deepest need.  Jesus made Himself nothing and walked side by side with man to provide the perfect atonement for our sins through the cross.

Philippians 2:6 states that Jesus “who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.”

Jesus executed His heavenly Father’s will and He completely emptied Himself for us.  He didn't seek to keep His rightful place near the Father, but He sought to obey and serve His heavenly Father even unto death.

Thinking on this really overwhelms me!    I think how Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth for me to die in my place for my sins.  Oh, how often I sin – nasty voice of irritation, grumbling at what others have said or done, pride at how great I am on my own, seeking my own desires before others, and lack of trust in God’s plan.

As I was writing this post, I was complaining to my husband about how very selfish one of our children is with a certain toy. I was retelling the story of how this child kept a toy away from the rest of the siblings so only he could play with it. Then I saw it!  Not the toy – but my own sin! Yuck! The sin of selfishness as the Lord gently reminded me of what I had been harboring and keeping to myself.  Jesus, the Son of God took my sin – this sin of selfishness- upon Himself.

I see my sin so often, but praise God for sending His One and Only Son to earth for me and for you.  Praise God for His daily forgiveness. I need only to confess my sin before the Lord our God and turn from my sin.

Confess your sin quickly and be encouraged with this verse:

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1: 9
